Chardonnay is the world's most popular white wine grape. Today, Chardonnay is an international grape. Originally from Burgundy, the first vine was transplanted in northern Italy about four hundred years ago.

The vineyards of Burgundy and Champagne are too far north and in some years the grapes don't fully ripen. Hence, French law permits the addition of sugar to aid fermentation. The practice is banned in "sunny Italy." That makes San Giuseppe a naturally good Chardonnay. The vineyards on the hills of Lake Garda offer the right soil and weather for the grapes to ripen naturally without the addition of sugar.
